“Where do I possibly begin with this place?

I have been looking for a used Subaru Crosstrek for a while. I had an Autotrader email alert set up for any new listings, and kept track over a few months to get an idea of typical price/km/features etc. One day an alert popped up for a 2018 with 28,000 km, accident free, single owner, and it was cheaper than any of the competition I had seen. I checked what dealership was selling it and is said "Curbie". Had never heard of it.

Well, now I tell every friend, family member, co-worker, and almost anyone who will listen about Curbie. I cannot believe the experience I had working with them. First of all, I found the whole concept intriguing. I hate haggling with used car dealers about price and features and warrantees etc. I loved the idea of just paying the price and that's that. And then I learned they deliver the car to your house on a single truck, and if you don't want the car you can get your money back in 7 days? This had to be too good to be true. I figured they must have car lots in every big city in the prairies in order to not lose out on the shipping costs alone from people returning cars they weren't 100% on. But they don't. They send them all out from Saskatoon. How on earth does this company make money? Well, it's because the cars and the service just that good. They are willing to take a risk because they know people won't give the cars back when they see them and drive them and experience the service Curbie offers.

When I wrote to them, I had a few initial emails with Ryley, to discuss details of my current car I was considering for a trade, and then was connected to Tyler. He called me on a Saturday and we chatted for about a half hour. I felt like I was reconnecting with an old friend. I told him all about the Curbie research I had done, how I'm so completely enthralled about the concept, and I wanted to buy the Crosstrek. The trade value offered on my current car wasn't stellar (no fault to Curbie--the dealership offered me a similar trade value) so I wasn't sure if I was going to try and sell it privately or not. Tyler held on to the car in Saskatoon an extra week to give me more time to try and sell it privately. I asked Tyler if the existing warrantee would be valid when I take the car to the U.S. for work, and he called around to multiple dealerships and even Subaru Canada looking for an answer for me.

In an unrelated story, I managed to sell my current car within 24 hours of posting it to Autotrader. I called Tyler back, and on his day off he managed to pull some strings to get the car sent out from Saskatoon the following day so I wouldn't be without a car. They paid for the out-of-province inspection, and then it arrived an hour early than proposed. The car is beautiful, in perfect condition, looks brand new. I love it!

I know people have reservations about buying expensive things online. This method of car buying probably won't work for you if you aren't sure what kind of vehicle you want. You need to go in with a bit of research done. I went to a dealership not only to test drive the car, but to get a comparison price. The Curbie car was cheaper and had less miles than the dealership. To be fair, I could have haggled the dealership price down lower, but I just don't trust them the way I trust Curbie. They just have too much on the line to sell faulty cars.

I sincerely believe that Curbie, and the mimics that will soon follow, is going to change the way people buy cars in the future. I am so excited to see where this company goes and I hope that they are able to maintain this level of down-to-earth good-natured customer service when they eventually explode across all of Canada. Keep it up everyone, you're doing an amazing job!”
